About the Lab

The Augmented Experience E-health Laboratory, or AXEL, is a research laboratory devoted to developing immersive medical technology. Our mission is to serve Filipinos with disabilities by offering virtual therapy that enhances patient well-being through empowerment, engagement, and innovation.

EMPOWERMENT By placing patients in virtual therapy settings that emphasize their potential, we can help them rediscover and strengthen their skills.

ENGAGEMENT We create virtual experiences that actively include patients making therapy an enjoyable and fulfilling journey.

INNOVATION We provide innovative immersive solutions producing sensory experiences that would otherwise be impossible to duplicate, thereby creatively and ingeniously tackling particular healthcare concerns.

About the Team

AXEL research group is an interdisciplinary team composed of specialists with diverse and extensive experience ranging from design and game development to rehabilitation and healthcare. The research program “Immersive Technology Applications in Healthcare” is a collaborative effort of the University of the Philippines Manila and University of the Philippines Diliman with funding granted by Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).
